Mystery in the Window - download as a pdf
A long time ago a woman had a baby and when the baby was only a few months old, she died mysteriously. She was buried at the local cemetery right across the street from the house. People say that they can see her in the top window (which was the nursery) at the front of the house, rocking in a rocking chair by candlelight.
One day many years later, a couple came to look at the house, as it was still empty and unlived in since the woman’s death. While the O’Malley’s were looking at it they heard footsteps upstairs, humming of a lullaby and a door shut. The realtor told them the story of the woman who had lived there and mysteriously died many years before, but he said that it was just an old folktale and that he hadn’t known anyone who had every actually seen or heard the woman before (and he had lived there in the small town his entire life). The couple made many trips back to the house before finally deciding to buy it.
They lived in the house for 2 years and never again had they heard or seen any signs of the mysterious woman. It wasn’t until they found out they themselves were expecting a child that they started to hear noises again. The O’Malley’s fixed up the room on the second floor at the front of the house and many times when they would come back to the room, furniture would be moved or pictures rearranged. Days later the O’Malley’s had a lovely baby girl named Abigail. When they came home from the hospital the nursery had once again been rearranged and there was a very cold chill in the air. So they did what any logical parent would do and they turned up the heat thinking that would fix the problem. Many months passed and they heard humming coming from the nursery whenever Abigail was sleeping or napping, but whenever they checked on her the humming would stop. But there was always a very cold chill in the air. Finally one night they heard the humming again, although this time they heard Abigail humming along. And when they went in to check on her, they saw a white figure rocking back and forth, back and forth, rocking what appeared to be Abigail in her arms.
Many years passed and the O’Malley’s kept the secret of the woman to themselves. On one very cold and rainy night when Abigail was 5 years old, she came to her parents and asked, “Who is the lady in my room who sings to me at night and when I am scared?”
The O’Malley’s didn’t have an honest answer for their darling Abigail, so they decided to tell her what they had heard about the mysterious woman who had lived there many years before them…
Abigail said, “I know her daughter… it is me!”
So what do you believe…are ghosts real??? You decide.
