Shouting the Battle Cry of Freedom

Take time to rediscover a watershed event in our nation’s history. Our One Book, One Michiana choice for 2013 revolves around the epic battle of Gettysburg, which turned the tide of the American Civil War. In commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the battle, we invite you to read Michael Shaara’s Pulitzer prize-winning The Killer Angels.
The Killer Angels centers around four sweltering days in 1863 Pennsylvania where Union forces met 70,000 men under the command of General Robert E. Lee and where George Meade had been named commanding general of the Union Army just 3 days before. With powerful language and memorable characters, The Killer Angels takes you inside the heads and hearts of key participants on both sides of the battle.
St. Joseph County Public Library, along with our community partners, encourages you to participate in the fourth One Book, One Michiana. We’re offering a wide variety of programs and book discussions that are both entertaining and thought provoking.
You can find a copy of The Killer Angels at your local library, online at sjcpl.org or at a bookstore. SJCPL also has the miniseries, Gettysburg, available for checkout. We invite you to join one of our book discussions or host your own.
Thanks for joining us.
