Exhibition @ Centre

Posted on Monday 12 December 2005

Maire: So the exhibiton at Centre went pretty well in my opinion. Yeah, we gave out the prize a little early, but that left more time for just free play, which seemed like more fun than the actual tournament. We even broke out some Super Smash Bros.! I skipped out around 2, but it sounds like it got a little rowdy towards the end. Huzzah!

So for all of you that missed it, come to Francis Branch (52655 Ironwood Rd.) this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. We’re doing it all over again. Come early, sign up, and race for the prize! Then just play for the rest of the day.

P.S. I know it says this is posted by P. I set it that way so he can edit it later with better commentary. ;) - maire

P: And edit I shall! I don’t know how she wanted me to edit the post, so I’m leaving her post up and filling in the bottom.

So how did it go? Awesome. That’s the only way to put it. We started off with, of course, the tournament itself. We were able to fit in five races for each person, and after the five races, we had our top eight who were ready for the final qualifying round. The eight were One (42 points), B-Lo (33 points), Marik (24 points), Bazooka Joe (25 points), Martin (21 points), J.J. (21 points), and Julian (34 points).

Although One led the pack up to the final qualifying round, he was edged out by Bazooka Joe, Marik, B-Lo, and Martin. The final round was a Balloon Battle which left us with Martin as the winner, and now the owner of a $25 gift card from the new EB Games on Ireland Road.

Afterwards, we busted out the snacks, devoted one station to Super Smash Brothers, and bounced around in MK:DD between Shine Thief, Balloon Battle, standard racing, and Co-Op Mode. Everyone hung out until around 3 p.m. when, after an insane Co-Op/Shine Thief match, we were told that we were too loud and would have to wrap it up (which many of us took as a personal badge of honor knowing that there was that much fun going on). Pretty much everyone pitched in on clean up, and afterwards I got the chance to talk with people before I finally had to run out and set up some gaming for the Staff Christmas Party that night.

It was much fun, and like Maire said above, we’re doing it all over again at Francis this Saturday. Afterwards we’re moving it all back here to the Main Branch where we kick off our first Grand Tournament ever, at which point we will start widdling out the competition until our first ever GT Champion is declared in April. Should be some intense happenings soon, so keep your eye here for the info.

A special thanks to Bill from Circulation, Katie from Referance for keeping score, One for helping me set up the tourney itself, Maire for taking pictures, Dave and the Center Branch library for hosting the entire thing, and most importantly everyone who showed up. In the end you guys are the ones making this happen, so many props to you guys for helping us kick this off right. See you this Saturday!
