The SJCPL Readmobile is a library on wheels. Since 1996, Literacy & Outreach Services has operated this mobile library, introducing our youngest patrons to our services while teaching them responsibility and a love of reading.

What We Do

The SJCPL Readmobile provides traditional library services for at-risk children to schools, centers and agencies.

To request a Readmobile visit to your facility or special event, please submit one of these forms two weeks in advance:

  • Readmobile Request for School Service form (pdf)
  • Readmobile Request for Special Events form (pdf)

  • Please contact our office if you are having trouble downloading the forms.  Readmobile services are limited to residents within SJCPL’s taxing district. Services may be cancelled due to extreme weather conditions.  The Readmobile’s usual hours of operation are between 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Our staff provides traditional circulation and reference services as well as storytimes, reader’s advisory services and the Summer Reading Program.

    Things You Should Know

Children who visit the Readmobile through their school or organization are issued a SJCPL library card with Readmobile status.

Children are allowed to borrow 4 books per visit.   Items checked out on the Readmobile will circulate for 4 weeks. They may be returned on the Readmobile or at any SJCPL location.

Although they are charged the usual 15¢ per day for overdue items, the maximum fine for any item for a Readmobile patron is $1.00.  When Readmobile cards are used at any of our other SJCPL locations, the same rules apply as regular cards for children (three-week loan period, no limit on number of books checked out, standard fine policies, etc.).

Readmobile patrons must keep charges on their account below the fine limit established by the Library Board in order to use their card.

    Getting an SJCPL Card

Free library cards are available to residents of Centre, Clay, Greene, German, Liberty, Portage, Warren, Union, Harris, Penn, Lincoln, and Olive Townships.

Fill out a library card application, have it signed by a parent or guardian, and drop it off at any SJCPL location. Your free library card will be mailed to you.

The Readmobile is part of SJCPL's Literacy & Outreach Services Department.
